White jamun, a crisp, mildly sweet and refreshing fruit, has a plethora of names globally, including wax apple, water apple, love apple, java apple, bell fruit and jamrool. Counted among the most savoured fruits in summer, this pear or bell-shaped tropical wonder also has several variants that mainly differ in skin shades, ranging from near-white to pale green, pink and crimson. But do you know the right way to savour this common fruit? Actress Nauheed Cyrusi recently demonstrated how you can indulge in this nutritious, diabetes-friendly fruit. In an Instagram video, she sits with a plate filled with a couple of them and says, “You know what fruit this is? Isey kehete hai (It is called the) "Love apple", "Jaam", "Water apple" - clearly bahut saarein naam hai iske (Clearly, it has many names).”
She then begins explaining how to enjoy the fruit: “Ispe kabhi kabar baal bhi hotey hai aur kide bhi. (Occasionally, it also bears fine hairs and insects.) So, the first thing you really need to do is make sure there are no insects.”
Nauheed also talks about the fruit's taste, noting that the pink ones taste no less than sweet water. “Ismein white variant bhi aate hai (It also comes in a white variant), but I feel like the pink ones always taste sweeter. The non-sweet ones are basically tasteless. It's like you're eating paani (water), but the sweet ones, I really don't know how to explain this, it tastes like meetha paani (sweet water) - that's the best way to explain it,” she shares.
The actress ends the video by urging others to try out the fruit. “Agar aapne aaj tak khaya nhi ho, so it's your sign to go try one,” she concludes.

This is not the first time that Nauheed Cyrusi has shown the right ways to indulge in a fruit. Previously, she shared a simple hack to savour mangosteens. While the fruit is widely available across the subcontinent, the edible part of the purple-hued fruit consists of white, juicy and soft flesh that surrounds the seeds. The evergreen tropical fruit is typically sweet and slightly sour, offering a pleasant aroma, which, for the actress, is “possibly the most delicious fruit ever." Read here to know more.
