About Chukkappam Recipe: A tea-time snack from Tamil Nadu that is perfect tp satiate your hunger pangs. Chukkappam is often served with chicken fry.

Ingredients of Chukkappam

  • 1/2 Cup rice flour
  • 500 ml coconut milk
  • 2 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tsp chilli powder
  • 3 tsp fennel powder
  • 2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 7 curry leaves
  • 1/2 cup rice flour
  • 1 Egg
  • Oil (for deep frying)

How to Make Chukkappam

Add coconut milk, garam masala, chili powder, fennel powder, ginger-garlic paste and curry leaves in a pan.

Cook the above mixture, when the coconut milk starts to boil, slowly add a cup of rice flour and mix well. Let the dough cool down.

Now combine together rice flour and an egg. Keep aside.

When the flour-coconut mixture cools down, start kneading. Add rice flour-egg mixture to this while kneading and continue to make a soft and smooth dough.

Make long thin strips out of the dough. Take each long strips and make small balls out of it, flatten each ball to give it a button shape.

Make uniform small button shapes out of the dough.
7.
Once the dough is made into button shapes, deep fry in batches. You can add the curry leaves to the oil as well for a nice aroma and flavour.
8.
Fry in enough oil until golden brown and inside has cooked through.
9.
Transfer the fried Chukkappams to a kitchen paper towel. Let cool down.
