Kwanti is a popular Nepalese curry made with nine types of lentils and pulses.

Ingredients of Kwanti

  • Boiled pulses
  • 1/4 cup bengal gram
  • 1/4 cup green peas
  • 1/4 cup black eyed beans
  • 1/4 cup chick peas
  • 2 Tbsp white kidney beans
  • 2 Tbsp whole green grams
  • 2 Tbsp lentil with skin
  • 2 Tbsp lentil without skin
  • 2 Tbsp clarified butter
  • 4-5 cloves
  • 2-3 cinnamon
  • 3-4 cloves garlic
  • 2 Tbsp chopped onions
  • 1/2 tsp carom seeds
  • 2-3 whole red chillies
  • 1 tomato-chopped
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Mustard oil to shallow fry

How to Make Kwanti

  • 1.Heat mustard oil in a pan, bring to smoke point.
  • 2.Add red chilli, cloves, cinnamon, garlic cloves and carom seed.
  • 3.When it crackles, add chopped onions & tomatoes and saute for 2 minutes.
  • 4.Now add the boiled pulses followed by seasoning.
  • 5.Mix well and cook for 5 more minutes.
  • 6.Garnish with clarified butter and serve.
