Ingredients of Maharashtrian Style Peanut (Shengdana) Chutney

  • 1 Cup peanuts (shengdana)
  • 5 garlic cloves (lehsun)
  • 4 whole dry red chillies
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi) (optional)
  • Salt to taste

Dry roast peanuts on medium heat for around 8 minutes. Stir continuously until they turn brown. Allow to cool.

If you wish to enhance the flavour further, you can roast the dry chillies and cumin separately for less than a minute. This step is optional.

In a blender/ grinder jar, add the garlic cloves, dry red chillies, cumin seeds, chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt to taste. Blend to get a powder-like texture.

Peel the peanuts thoroughly and add them to the rest of the ingredients. Grind further until you get a coarse consistency, free of lumps.
5.
Pair shengdana chutney with your snacks and meals. Store it in an airtight container in a cool place for future use.
