How to Make Rasiya Dhokla

Rasiya Dhokla Recipe: Rasiya Dhokla is a different way of enjoying the popular Gujarati snack. In this dish, simple khaman is served with a tangy rassa with a jaggery-tamarind base. Flavourful and wholesome, this treat is a great choice especially when you have leftover dhoklas.

Ingredients of Rasiya Dhokla

  • 250 gms khaman dhokla (yellow)
  • 1/2 cup jaggery, grated/ powdered
  • 2 lemon-sized tamarind pieces
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)
  • 2 sprig curry leaves
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 2 green chillies, roughly chopped
  • 1 tbsp coriander, for garnish, finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required

How to Make Rasiya Dhokla

Soak the tamarind in a cup of hot water for 10-15 minutes. Then squeeze and extract the pulp. Keep aside.

In a pan or kadhai, heat oil on medium flame and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and asafoetida.

Add the green chillies and pour in the tamarind pulp. Mix well.

Next, add turmeric and chilli powder. Mix and then add the jaggery and 2 cups of hot water with salt to taste. Stir to combine.
5.
Bring the rassa to a boil and garnish with coriander.
6.
Place the khaman dhoklas inside a bowl of the rassa and enjoy immediately. Alternatively, you can serve the rassa and dhoklas separately.
