Ingredients of Spicy Tava Idli

  • 4 idlis
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 green chilli, finely chopped
  • ½ inch ginger, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp grated coconut
  • 1 sprig of curry leaves
  • ¼ tsp mustard seeds
  • ¼ tsp urad dal
  • 1 tbsp roasted peanuts or cashew nuts
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp sambar masala or podi masala
  • 1 tsp pav bhaji masala (optional)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp ghee or oil
  • 1 tsp butter
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Spicy Tava Idli

Cut the cooked/ leftover idlis into big cubes and keep ready.

Heat the tava and keep the heat on medium. Add the ghee/ oil, followed by the mustard seeds and urad dal.

Once they splutter, add the curry leaves, ginger, green chilli and onion.

After the onion turns translucent, add turmeric and 1 tsp salt.
5.
Next, add in the tomatoes and cut idlis. Saute lightly with a spatula.
6.
Spread the masalas over the sauteed ingredients. Then add the nuts, coconut, and lemon juice and mix well.
7.
Top with butter, garnish with chopped coriander and serve hot.
