Don't wait for the perfect moment, take a moment, enjoy a dessert and make it perfect... and when you decide to do that we'd like to help! Having wiped the frosting off our faces, here's our take on dessert havens around the city!
The Chocolate Beetle"All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt." True that. At this chocolate haven we are welcomed by a glossy pink beetle parked right where it should be. The beetle serves as the display of what will give chocolate diehards the faints.
Brownies, cakes, truffles, shakes and all things chocolate! We gulped our way through their signature Belgian truffle shake. Chilled milk with molten Belgian cake makes for a dream team together. The Belgian Truffle Cake and the Beetle's Brownie Sandwich with layers of brownie and Belgian chocolate were hard to resist. The gulukand chocolate, a mix of Indian flavors of gulukand with dark chocolate grabbed our attention and was surprisingly delicious. They also have other flavors like blueberry-dark chocolate, white chocolate etc. Gurjeev Gulati, Owner, The Chocolate BeetleResearch tells us twelve out of any ten individuals like chocolate and a place like this is what we need to explore the chocolate culture. Here's hoping that they would come up with more inventive chocolate variations.Belgian truffle shake: Rs 199

You walk in and find yourself in a world of freshly baked breads, tea cakes and savouries. Snacks like the paneer tikka and chicken seekh hot dog, lasagne sandwich marry Indian flavours with western influences. The bakery is run by Ratti Sharma who began her culinary adventure as a bakery-at-home in 1997, supplying breads and desserts to various restaurants. With the idea of tapping into places having fewer bakeries, Pudding and Pie has its outlets in Vikaspuri, Said-ul-ajab, Mayapuri and the one in Malviya Nagar which flagged off a few months back.
We took a slice of what is their specialty, the Arabian honey cake. A light cake finished off with caramelized almonds and honey seeping through the sponge. The cake might seem deceptively simple but there was something about it that we couldn't get enough of. Slice into any of their treats and transform tea time into a delightful soiree. The red velvet, the chocolate chip brownie cake and the cherry delight are the brightest stars of the bakery amongst others. Also you can get a cake delivered to your doorstep by ordering it through their website. Ratti Sharma, Owner, Pudding & PieDid someone ever quote, stress cannot exist in the presence of (pudding and) pie?Arabian Honey Cake (we recommend it as it comes with a shelf life of 4-5 days): Rs. 700 for 1 kg/ Rs. 370 for 1/2 kgAddress: C-60, Malviya Nagar, Shivalik road

A spotlight must be thrown on the lime cupcake with a mile-high neon frosting that screams 'come try me.' A refreshing lemony taste leaves a lasting impression. Maison Des DessertsMeringue based desserts are tough enough to thrive, however good they are. But a bite into the pavlova here with a dollop of cream and strawberries proved otherwise. It's the delicate melt-in-mouth flavor that will win you over.
The idea came to Shirani Mehta, owner and baker, as she went on a quest to find the best crème brûlée in the city but in vain. Baking her way into an unknown territory of meringue based desserts seems to have been embraced well by the crowds as this two month old bakery has become the new sensation. The red velvet cake is much in demand (that's if you can get your hands on it!) Shirani Mehta, Owner, Maison des Desserts

Sugar BlossomsAt Sugar Blossoms at Meherchand market in New Delhi we walked into a chic, charming and oh-so-fashionable cake studio. A confectionery that deals with avante-garde cakes, cupcakes, cookies etc. Every piece of theirs is special using quality ingredients. The tiny shots of cake truffles (Rs 65 each) are the unsung heroes. You might think you are biting into hard chocolate but then boom! The dark chocolate coating holds a fudgy cake surprise.Slick and exclusive, chose a bake that suits you. Step into a world where trendy hand decorated fondant designs blend with home-made preserves, keeping up with the latest confectionery fashions. Petite cupcakes sold here could work as quick 'pick-me-ups' or help you taste the flavor of the cake you want to order. The Belgian chocolate is the most popular flavor. Kajal Karni Bajaj, Owner, Sugar BlossomsOwner and baker, Kajal Karni Bajaj introduces us to the concept of a cake studio, which essentially means that instead of picking up ready made desserts off the shelf, you can customize each order. With a beautifully arranged open work station, one can come here and watch what goes behind creating sugar art!
