Even if you aren't well versed with the plethora of food South India offers, there is no way you wouldn't have heard of the famous 'Dosa'. The delicious crepe-like dish served with sambar and coconut chutney is an instant mood lifter. You can enjoy it as a simple plain dosa and or with a filling of spicy potatoes, either way a dosa rarely disappoints. One restaurant in Mumbai is taking its love for dosa a notch higher by serving over 100 varieties of dosas.
Not just the dosas, but the Pure Milk Centre in Ghatkopar is fast becoming one of the popular pit stops for all things delicious and pocket-friendly in the suburbs of Mumbai. The wide and whacky range of dosas include cheese burst dosa, ice cream dosa, chocolate dosa, palak paneer dosa, pav bhaji dosa, Manchurian dosa, cake dosa and even a pasta dosa!
Mr. Rajesh Yadav, owner of Pure Milk Centre shares with us, "We started out as a dairy shop and about 8 years back we converted the shop into a full-fledged fast food joint." They started out selling only chaat and vada pav and kept expanding and reinventing their menu. Today, they serve a huge variety of dosas, sandwiches, pizzas and Chinese delicacies.
"We sell about 100 types of dosas, and the most popular ones out of these are the cheese burst dosa, chocolate dosa, ice cream dosa and pizza dosa," Mr.Yadav adds.
So, what makes the cheese burst dosa so popular? "The crispy Dosa is first slathered with a special gravy and is then filled with heaps of mozzarella cheese. We also top it with generous dose of liquid cheese right before serving. The Dosa is prized at INR 260. It is quite filling and can be shared by 2-3 people," says Mr. Rajesh.
Another stunner, the chocolate dosa is topped with heaps of molten chocolate and is a true treat for those with a sweet tooth and so is the ice cream dosa where the crispy crepe is stuffed with chocolate spread, chocolate sauce and scoops of ice-cream. Apart from the many varieties of Dosa, other fusion delicacies that are recommended at the Pure Milk Centre are Chocolate Sandwich, Shahi Paneer Grilled Sandwich, and Taco Pizza.
