It is celebrated in honour of Kerala's mythical king Mahabali. Onam celebrations mark the homecoming of the king. Onam Sadya is one of the star highlights of the festival. Onam Sadya or Onasadya is an indulgent spread served on a banana leaf. The opulent meal is studded with 26 distinct vegetarian preparations! A traditional Sadya meal comprises various kinds of chutneys, pickles, lentils, curries and gourd preparations.
