Howrah railway station is one of the busiest stations across India. It sees thousands of people coming from all over India and vice versa. If you ever visit the railway station, you will find people waiting for hours to catch their trains. To cater to all those passengers, Eastern Railways is back with their food plaza in Howrah. As per reports, the food plaza will soon be open for all, after a gap of 17 long months. Railway officials state that reopening the food plaza just before the biggest Bengali festival Durga Puja will benefit several passengers.
As reported by multiple media outlets, the newly renovated food plaza is built on 3122 square feet, on the ground floor of the station. It was inaugurated on September 5, 2022, in the presence of senior officials of Eastern Railway and IRCTC.
Reports further state that the plaza will offer chemical-free foods for the daily commuters. Foods will be prepared from fresh milk, rice, wheat, and vegetables, procured from Sundarban Cooperative Milk and Livestock Union Ltd. More than 50 types of sweets, snacks, savouries etc will be sold from the outlet, stated an official. Besides you will also get pizzas, burgers, sandwich, rolls, ice creams etc in the Howrah food plaza.
Eastern Railways took to their official Twitter handle to share the news that reads (in Bengali), "The food here will be affordable and of good quality." The post further reads that the only aim is to provide highest quality service to the guests coming to Howrah station.
For the unversed, the food plaza was shut down during the lockdown and later got opened in January. But, due to some official complications, it again got shut down later. Finally, it is renovated and will soon be opening to cater to the passenger, as per officials.
