Students at a government engineering college in Banka, Bihar, were horrified to discover suspected snake pieces in their dinner served at the college mess on Thursday evening. At least 11 students became sick after consuming the contaminated food, complaining of nausea and vomiting. They were rushed to a nearby hospital and are currently recovering, according to a doctor overseeing their treatment. A photo circulating online, allegedly taken by a student, shows what appears to be a snake tail in the food. This incident has sparked outrage among students, parents, and the college community, raising serious concerns about food safety and hygiene standards at the mess.

The college mess is operated by a private contractor and has faced previous criticism regarding food quality. A student reported that substandard food issues have plagued even the girls' mess and that expired food was found during a previous inspection by a local authority. Another student highlighted the college's strict policy, where students who opt out of the mess plan or have unpaid mess dues are barred from taking exams.
The district administration has initiated an investigation into the incident, following up on earlier complaints about the mess's food quality. District Magistrate Anshul Kumar confirmed that the administration had previously addressed such issues with the college.
As of now, there has been no comment from the college administration or the private contractor who operates the college mess.
