Food delivery has made our life undoubtedly simpler. We now place orders for our favourite dishes at our most-loved eateries with just a few simple clicks, and the food is delivered to our homes without much hassle. However, if you check the bill of your food delivered you may spot a few discrepancies that could catch your attention. A woman complained about expensive packaging charges for her online order. Twitter user Khushboo Thakkar took to the platform to share her food ordering experience with just the packaging of the food coming at an expensive cost. Take a look:
Container charge is equivalent to the item that I have ordered
₹60 for the container charge
Seriously?? @zomato@zomatocare@zomato#zomato#zomatopic.twitter.com/2ceQFgiB5h— Khushboo Thakkar (@khush_2599) August 2, 2023

The post was shared on Twitter by user @Khush_2599. In the photograph, she shared her bill for a dudhi thepla (bottle gourd thepla) that she ordered. The item was priced at Rs 60 and she ordered three packets of it, amounting to Rs 180. However, the restaurant charged her an extra 60 rupees for the container and packing charges for home delivery. Thus, including taxes, the total of her order came to Rs 249. The Twitter user was quite puzzled at the exorbitant packaging charges levied by the food delivery application. "Container charge is equivalent to the item that I have ordered Rs 60 for the container charge. Seriously," she questioned in the caption.
A number of internet users poured in their reactions and comments to the post. Many of them said that the user should have checked the total before ordering it. "This is the convenience charge," mentioned one user. "Additional charges make us irritable," said another. Meanwhile, the food delivery app Zomato too responded to the user's claim about the expensive packaging charges. They said that these were usually levied by the restaurant and the delivery app had no say in it. Take a look at their response:
Hi Khushboo, while taxes are universal and vary from 5 - 18% depending on the type of food. Packaging charges are levied by our restaurant partners, they are the ones who implement and earn from this practice.
