Ingredients of Bengali-Style Dal Bhorta

  • 1 Cup masoor dal
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil
  • 2-3 dry red chillies
  • 1-2 green chillies
  • 2-3 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 onion, sliced
  • 1/2 haldi
  • 2-3 tsp coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Bengali-Style Dal Bhorta

First, soak the masoor dal in water for around 15 minutes. Add it to a pan along with salt and haldi and boil in 1 cup water until the water dries up. Keep it aside to cool down.

Now, heat mustard oil in a pan and add dry red chillies and garlic cloves. Fry them until they release an aroma.

In a bowl, mash the dry red chillies with salt. Add green chillies, mustard oil, garlic cloves, and onion, and mash again using your hands. Add fresh coriander leaves and combine everything together.

Finally, add the boiled masoor dal and mix well. Gently shape it into a ball, drizzle some ghee on top, and serve with rice.
