Boorelu is a traditional dessert which is mostly made during Telugu festivals. Rounds of rice flour stuffed with coconut and chana dal.

Ingredients of Boorelu (Deep Fried Sweet Dumplings)

  • 200 gm channa dal
  • 50 gm grated coconut
  • 05 gm cardamom
  • 200 gm sugar
  • For the batter:
  • 100 gm urad dal
  • 150 gm rice
  • Salt to taste
  • Ghee for deep frying

How to Make Boorelu (Deep Fried Sweet Dumplings)

  • 1.Soak the urad dal and rice together for 2 hours and grind them to a fine paste adding enough water to make a thick batter.
  • 2.Leave to ferment overnight in a warm place. Cook the channa dal with 2 cups of water.
  • 3.Boil until all the water has been absorbed.
  • 4.Add the sugar and coconut to the dal and cook on a low flame until the mixture is thick.
  • 5.Remove from flame and add cardamom powder and mash.
  • 6.Divide the mixture into small balls.
  • 7.Dip each ball in the prepared batter, make sure to coat it evenly.
  • 8.Deep fry dumplings until golden and serve warm.
