Chicken Pathia is a fairly simple dish that is quite similar to the chicken curry that we usually make.

Ingredients of Chicken Pathia

  • 500 Gram Chicken
  • 3-4 tbsp Ghee
  • 1/2 cup Sliced onions
  • 1/2 cup Chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
  • A pinch of hing
  • 1/2 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
  • 2-3 Green chillies slit,
  • 1/2 tsp Dried red chilli powder
  • For sweetness
  • 2-3 tsp Sweet Mango pulp
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • For sourness
  • 1-2 tbsp Tamarind pulp
  • 1-2 tbsp Vinegar

How to Make Chicken Pathia

In a pan heat ghee and sprinkle a pinch of hing and ginger garlic paste, let it cook until the raw smell of the garlic is gone.

Now, add the sliced onions and tomatoes and cook for sometime. Once done, add the dried masalas one after the other, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and let it cook again.

Once the masala starts leaving oil, add slit chillies and tamarind paste and let it cook for a while.

Now add the mango pulp and stir until everything is mixed well. ‘

Add more sweet or sour after tasting once. No one flavour should over power the curry.

Add some water to make semi liquidy gravy.

Now add the chicken and let everything mix well.

Put on the lid and cook for at least 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, check if the chicken is soft, if not then cook for 10 more minutes.
9.
In the last minutes, add kasuri mathi and garam masala, give it one final stir and its ready to be served.
