How to make chicken salna
Chicken Salna is a well-known street side dish in southern parts of Tamil Nadu. Simple, quick and easy-to-make, salna is a thin gravy usually made with mutton or chicken stock along with other flavourful spices.

Ingredients of Chicken Salna
- 500 grams Boneless Chicken
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 2 medium Onions
- 2 Cardamom
- 1 Cinnamon
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 tsp Pepper corn
- 1/2 cup Sliced coconut
- 2 tbsp Peanuts
- 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Coriander Powder
- 1/2 tsp Red chilli powder
- 2 small Chopped Tomatoes
- to taste Salt
- Water as required
- Coriander leaves for Garnishing
- 1 tsp Fennel seeds
How to Make Chicken Salna

Heat oil in a pan, add coconut, peanuts along with dry ingredients like fennel seeds, cumin seeds, cardamom, cinnamon and pepper corn.

Roast all the spices on low flame for 2-3 minutes. Once done, blend them in a blender by adding water as required to make a consistent paste. (when cool down).

Now heat oil in another pan again, add sliced onions, curry leaves along with ginger garlic paste and salt to taste.

Saute for few minutes until onions get transculent and soft.

Now, add in chopped tomatoes and cover the lid until tomatoes get soft and juiced down.

Add curry powder (optional) along with red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt to taste.

Then add chicken pieces and mix everything so well.

Add water and cover the lid for 15-20 minutes and keep stirring meanwhile to avoid burning.
9.
Add coriander leaves and mint leaves to garnish.
10.
Serve it hot with parotta, rice or idli.
