Lentil Koftas in Mustard Sauce

Black lentils soaked and ground to blend with some of the most flavourful spices. Made into beautiful koftas, bathed in aromatic mustard sauce.

Ingredients of Lentil Koftas in Mustard Sauce

  • 100 gm split black lentils
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ginger paste
  • A pinch of hing
  • Mustard oil for frying
  • 1 tsp black cumin seeds
  • For the gravy:
  • 1 tbsp black mustard seeds
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard seeds
  • 2 green chillies salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 350 ml water

How to Make Lentil Koftas in Mustard Sauce

For the koftas:

1.
Soak lentils for 30 minutes.
2.
Drain and grind with 2 green chillies, salt, sugar, ginger and hing.
3.
Blend for two minutes.
4.
Make balls out of the batter.
5.
Fry them in hot mustard oil until they float to the surface.

For the gravy:

1.
Grind all the ingredients together.
2.
Tip out excess oil from pan, leaving 2 Tbsp.
3.
Fry cumin followed by the paste.
4.
Let it simmer for 10 minutes.
5.
Add koftas to the gravy.
6.
Reheat and serve with rice.
