A typical Sindhi dessert. Flour kneaded with milk, ghee, vanilla essence and shaped into oblong cylinders. Fried golden and rolled in a sugar syrup.

Ingredients of Tosha

  • 150 gm maida salt - to taste
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/3 tsp pink food coloring (optional) - mixed in 1 tbsp milk
  • 120 gm sugar
  • 3 Tbsp ghee
  • 1/3 tsp vanilla essence
  • Water - to knead oil

How to Make Tosha

  • 1.Sieve the flour, salt and the baking powder together.
  • 2.Mix in the milk mixture, ghee, vanilla essence and add enough water to make it into medium soft dough.
  • 3.Rub oil on your palms and make medium sized balls of the dough.
  • 4.Heat oil in a kadahi and deep fry the toshas - add on high heat and lower as soon as the toshas are added and fry on low heat so that they get cooked from the inside. Fry till golden.
  • 5.In another pan melt the sugar with 3 tbsp water, when the sugar has melted add the toshas while the syrup is hot and stir gently.
  • 6.Put out the flame so that the sugar coats the toshas. Allow to cool.
