Crunchy, crispy and delicious, potato chip is one evergreen snack that people of all ages love to eat! Whether we are on a road trip, or in the office, a bag of potato chips can lighten up the mood and bring a smile to our faces. But do you know what goes behind making this crispy snack? How exactly does a potato become a packet of tasty chips? A video uploaded by Instagram food blogger @foodie_incarnate shows this process! Now, you can learn how potato chips are commercially produced and believe us when we say - it is quite a mind-blowing process. Take a look:
First, the potatoes are placed on a conveyor belt. This conveyor belt takes the food from one machine to another. The potatoes are then placed inside a barrel, where the potatoes are spun around as they are peeled and washed. The skinless potatoes undergo a manual quality check, where two men remove the bad ones.

Next, the skinless potatoes are washed once more before taking them into the slicing machine. This machine slices the potatoes thinly like we see the chips. The sliced potatoes are taken inside another barrel, but this time they are washed with hot water. Blow dryers installed on top of the conveyor belt blow hot air to dry the slices and remove the excess moisture.
Now the slices are fried to a crisp in the frying station. As they move out of this machine, oil is drained from the fried chips through the conveyor belt. The fried chips are moved to an open barrel where the chips are spun and flavour powder is sprayed all around the chips. Then, the chips are evenly distributed, using a separator on a conveyor belt, and sent for packing.
