Mothers are pioneers of home cooked happiness. The sea of warmth that they harbour, magically mingles with the taste that no one can re-create. The aroma of her food can instill a cheer after an exhausting day. It is the kind of comfort that can fill you with fresh vigour when you feel life is low. Food is the physical manifestation of her love, and we can never get enough of it.

For all those bitten by the Bollywood bug, here's a spread of five recipes that these celebrities devote themselves to, especially when cooked by their moms. Entertain her with these dishes that are sure to stand out - just enough to get noticed and devoured.

Salman Khan

They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Salman Khan, the heart throb of many, dotes on home cooked biryani made by his mother, Salma. He is also a fan of kebabs.

Awadhi Mutton Biryani by Aditya Bal: A beautifully cooked and sweetly fragrant biryani that you'll absolutely fall in love with. Marinated mutton layered with rice, freshly ground spices and a generous drizzle of saffron-infused milk, this comes close to heaven.


Anushka Sharma

For this rustic belle, a Punjabi tadka makes all the difference. Rich and redolent flavours of chicken butter masala, made by her mom, can light her up any time of the day.  A feisty recipe, just like her.

Bipasha Basu

Bong beauty Bipasha Basu confesses her love for seafood. A true blue patron of Bengali food, she loves to gorge on mom-made mustard fish and prawn curry.

Sorsebata Ilish Mach by  Chef Avijit Ghosh, The Oberoi:  Hilsa fish cooked on a slow flame in mustard oil with a local five spice mix (panch phoron) and hot and strong flavours of mustard and poppy seed.


Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapor, often touted as a mumma's boy, loves to sink his teeth in a royal dish from the Rajputs of Rajasthan, cooked by his mom. He's a hardcore non vegetarian, his grandmother is his favourite cook. Fancied by many for his boy next door looks, his love for this fiery concoction of wild meat and red chillies comes to us as a surprise.

In olden days, this dish was made with wild hunted meat over an open flame, thus the name, junglee or shikari meat. 

Junglee Mutton by Raja Digvijay of Sailana: A recipe straight from a royal kitchen, this one's for all the committed carnivores. Re-create the great taste of meat meshed with the flavours of red chillies and garlic.
