Ingredients of Chikhali Style Dal Gosht
- Refined oil
- 1 kg mutton
- 3 cups of toor dal (uncooked)
- 2 large onions
- 2 tbsps ginger-garlic paste
- 3 - 4 bor chillies
- 1 lemon
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1 tsp coriander seeds
- 7 - 8 cloves
- 2 sticks of cinnamon
- 4 - 5 cardamoms
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 strip of mace
- 2 bay leaves
- Salt to taste
- 1 tsp pepper
- Fresh coriander for garnish
How to Make Chikhali Style Dal Gosht
HideShow MediaFor the Garam Masala:

Put coriander seeds, cloves, cinnamon, cardamoms, cumin, mace, bay leaves and pepper in a mortar and pestle.

Grind to a powder.
For Dal Gosht:
1.
In a large pot, heat refined oil. Add green chillies and saute for 2 minutes.

Add in diced onions and saute till they turn brown. Add ginger garlic paste and cook on a medium flame till the oil begins to separate from the masala.

Add in a cup of water along with turmeric, red chilli powder and salt to taste. Cook it for 5 - 7 minutes.

Next, add clean & diced mutton along with bor chillies, chopped tomatoes and 1 tbsp of garam masala.

Mix in uncooked toor dal.
6.
Add 5 - 6 cups of water and cover the pan.
7.
Let it cook till mutton is tender (about 1 hour)
8.
Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot.
