Fried dumplings of moong dal cooked in a simple yet flavoursome gravy of onions, tomatoes, ginger-garlic, chillies and finished off with a garnish of coriander leaves. Best enjoyed with Indian breads.

Ingredients of Moong Dal Ki Goli

  • 400 gm whole moong dal
  • 1 Tbsp. ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 15 gm green chilli chopped
  • 100 gm onion chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • For the masala:
  • 150 gm tomato chopped
  • 150 gm onion chopped
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger, finely chopped
  • 2 green chill, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp coriander leaves to garnish
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Moong Dal Ki Goli

  • Method for the goli:
  • 1.Soak moong dal in enough water for 2 hours. Grind the dal to a coarse texture. Mix well with ginger, garlic, onions, green chillies, garam masala and salt.
  • 2.Shape into round dumplings and deep fry till well-done. Keep aside. Method for the gravy:
  • 3.Heat oil in a pan. Add finely chopped ginger and garlic, saute till the raw aroma goes away and till they change colour slightly. Add chopped onions, fry till they turn translucent.
  • 4.Once done, add the chopped tomatoes, chopped green chilies, turmeric powder and red chilli powder. Fry these together to infuse the flavours into the mixture.
  • 5.When the gravy is done, add the fried dumplings of moong dal. Season with salt and garnish with coriander leaves.
