A dish that originated in Orissa. Cholai ka saag cooked with urad badis and coconut.

Ingredients of Saag Badi Nariya

  • For the badi:
  • Kali urad ki daal
  • Mustard oil to fry
  • Main dish:
  • 3 tsp mustard oil
  • 5 whole red chillies
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp garlic-chopped
  • 100 gm cholai saag
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp green chillies-chopped
  • 3 tsp crushed badi
  • 3 tsp coconut-grated
  • Onions-chopped

How to Make Saag Badi Nariya

  • 1.For the badi
  • 2.Soak the daal and then grind to a paste.
  • 3.Make small dumplings and keep them in the sun to dry.
  • 4.Fry these balls and then break them up into small pieces.
  • 5.The badis are ready.
  • For the main dish:
  • 1.Heat oil in a pan. Add the red chillies, mustard seeds, garlic and mix well.
  • 2.Then add the saag, salt, green chillies, broken badis and the grated coconut.
  • 3.Cook on low flame till it is cooked through.
  • 4.Serve hot with rice or chapatis.
