Yawning every now and then can be quite annoying. Especially, when you’re at work and those sudden bouts of extreme sleepiness starts interrupting with your work schedule. This could possibly be because of some foods that you’re eating. However, it’s not always big meals or junk food that can make your day off. If you have been feeling sleepy otherwise as well then it might be because of some other foods too. Here’s a list of 5 foods that can make you feel sleepy to a great extent. Read on to know more.

Dark Chocolate: If you happen to be a crazy chocolate lover who loves to gorge on dark chocolates every now and then, then it’s time to curb those cravings a bit! Dark chocolate can make you feel drowsy even though caffeine is present in it. It won’t make you feel awake the way milk chocolate does as milk chocolate doesn’t contain serotonin while dark chocolate is loaded with it.

Bread:   Carbs do give a boost to the sugar levels in the body, making you feel a lot more energetic, however, it doesn’t stay for a longer period of time. When glucose level starts dropping down, you might feel that your energy is being crashed and the body would urge for a nap. White bread is a processed from of bread which tends to make one feel sleepy in comparison to whole grain breads.

Cherries: This fruit is rich in melatonin which balances the body’s sleeping cycle. Consumption of extra amount of melatonin will give your body the signal to sleep. It’s always a good idea to consume cherries after dinner rather than having them in the day time.

Turkey: Lean proteins such as fish, chicken, turkey are rich in tryptophan and amino acids. They increase the serotonin levels in the body which tends to make you feel sleepy.

So if you wish to avoid drowsiness between those office meetings and important tasks, then make sure that you’re eating the above mentioned foods only around dinner time.
