The grand festive season in India has already begun. After celebrating Rakshabandan and Janmashtami with much fanfare, we are now looking forward to partaking in the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities. The festival marks the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesh, son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. As per legends, Lord Ganesh was born during Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi usually falls in the month of August or September, and this time it will be observed on August 31, 2022. Ganesh Chaturhti (or Ganeshotsav) is a 10-day-long festival that culminates on Anant Chaturdashi. The last day is popularly celebrated as Ganesh Visarjan day.

Devotees worship Lord Ganesh for prosperity and good future on this day. As per legends, Ganesh Chaturthi marks the rebirth of the God Ganesh. That's why Ganesh Chaturthi also signifies 'new beginnings'.
It is believed that Lord Ganesh was born during Madhyahna - in the middle of the day. So mid-day is considered the most auspicious time for Ganesh Puja, also called Shodashopachara Ganapati Puja.
