Amla, also known as Indian gooseberry, has long been valued in traditional diets for its impressive nutritional profile. While the fruit is beneficial for immunity and digestion, its distinctly tangy taste can be quite strong when consumed on its own. That is why many people look for creative ways to include it in their daily meals. A food vlogger recently shared her unique approach to turning amla into a mukhwas, a flavourful mix typically consumed after meals. When paired with ingredients like beetroot, it not only balances the sharpness of amla with a hint of natural sweetness but also makes it more appealing to those who may not otherwise enjoy eating it raw.

In an Instagram video, she demonstrated how to make amla and beetroot mukhwas at home. She began by grating 1 kg of amla and beetroot into a large tray. Next, she crushed mishri using a mortar and pestle and combined it with 2 tablespoons of fennel seeds. She then added 1 tablespoon of jeera powder, 2 tablespoons of black salt, and a pinch of hing, grinding everything together into a fine mixture. This spice blend was mixed with the grated amla and beetroot and left to dry in the sunlight for 3-4 days. Once ready, the mukhwas can be customised with toppings such as flax seeds and raisins.
