The simple answer is yes, but you have to be cautious. According to nutritionist Amita Gadre, green leafy vegetables are prone to a higher bacterial load, especially in monsoon. Moreover, the rainwater can make the roots muddy. So, make sure to wash the green leafy vegetables properly before consuming them in any form. While in most parts of India, spinach and methi are not available, you can keep a check on your beta carotene and antioxidant levels by including other alternatives like fodshi, ambadi, kurdu, mayaru, takla, etc. in your diet.

How To Wash Your Leafy Greens Properly In Monsoon?
As mentioned above, nutritionist Amita Gadre mentions cleaning the green leafy vegetables properly before consumption. But how do you do that? Here are 5 simple steps to follow with your leafy greens:
1. Separate Fresh Leaves
Once you buy the leafy greens of your choice, start by separating the clean and healthy-looking leaves from the soggy, dull ones. Then cut the steam of the clean leaves.
2. Wash Them Properly
While several people use store-bought cleaning solutions to wash their greens, you can choose not to use artificial cleaners. Instead, wash the green leafy vegetables under running water. Take time with each leaf and make sure to wash them separately.
3. Dry The Leaves
After washing, strain the excess water and dry the leaves under the fan. You can also use a salad spinner to dry the leafy greens. Or, if you don't have a salad spinner, pat dry the vegetables with a kitchen towel. Use can use these greens for the future or use them immediately.
4. Blanch The Greens
Blanch the greens as a safety precaution, whether you have it in raw or cooked form. Boil water with some salt and switch off the flame. Add the greens and let it soak for 30 seconds. Make sure not to exceed the mentioned time as keeping them in the hot water for too long can affect their colour and crunch.
5. Ice Bath
Immediately after removing the leafy greens from hot water, transfer them into a bowl filled with ice water. Keep it for a minute and remove it. This will help keep their signature colour and crunch.
