National Nutrition Week starts today (September 1). It is an annual event celebrated between September 1st to 7th to raise awareness around eating healthy and nutritious. And this becomes yet more important in the current situation amidst the ongoing pandemic. Since the beginning of 2020, experts around the world have been stressing on eating healthy for overall nourishment and immunity. In fact, immunity lays foundation for a healthy body. While some are blessed with a strong immunity since childhood, others grow it with time, age and right kind of lifestyle. "Food helps maintain the integrity of our body and certain foods are linked to boosting immunity. Research tells immunity is built up over a period of time; so daily intake of variety of nourishing, wholesome foods along with a healthy lifestyle is necessary to connect the dots," says consultant nutritionist Rupali Datta.
This National Nutrition Week, we bring you some quick and easy hacks that can help boost immunity in the easiest way possible. Let's take a look.
National Nutrition Week 2021: Here're 5 Simple Ways To Boost Immunity:
1. Drink Water:
Drinking enough fluid throughout the day and staying hydrated is the key to healthy living. Hydration helps regulate body's functioning, further leading to good metabolism, detoxification and more. These factors together help boost our immune health.
2. Eat Green Vegetables:
Have you ever wondered why our parents stressed on eating vegetables and green leaves? It's because these foods are deemed to be the most natural way to load up on every essential nutrient. Including good number of vitamins, minerals, fibre, protein etc help nourish us from within and boost immunity.
3. Eat Probiotics:
Did you know your gut health plays an important role in boosting immunity? Several studies across the world found that healthy gut bacteria help promote our immune health. This is why nutritionists suggest us to include dahi, chaas, lassi etc in our everyday diet.
4. Consume Fruits And Fruit Juices:
Fruits are superfoods, and there's no denying to it. The most natural way to include every essential nutrition to our diet, fruits are healthy, wholesome and keep us full for long. You may have it as is or make delicious juices with the fruits.
5. Healthy Herbs, Spices And Kadhas:
Cinnamon, cumin, turmeric and other kitchen spices have always been known for their versatility. Besides enhancing flavours (in a recipe), herbs and spices are in traditional medical practices since eons. And amidst the ongoing pandemic, we have seen these ingredients coming back in vogue - in form of kadha, herbal tea and churan. Each of these herbs and spices are fortified with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that may further help boost immunity.
