Nothing can beat the lip-smacking flavours of Indian street food. Be it pani puri, cheela, chana chaat or jhalmuri, all it takes is a bite to fall in love with these delicacies. With carts lined up on streets serving fluffy bread pakora along with masala chai, it gets almost impossible not to make a quick stop and relish these snacks. Crispy golden aloo tikki chaat is another much-loved street that can get anyone hooked on it. But it is not us, but even American celebrity chef and blogger Eitan Bernath cannot have enough of aloo tikki chaat.
Proof? Well, the US-based blogger just got back from his trip to India and shared that he had been “dreaming of the Aloo Tikki Chaat since the second I left the street food cart when I ate it in India”. So, he decided to make some at home and was kind enough to share the recipe with us.
In an Instagram Reel, the chef demonstrates the process to make the perfect aloo tikki chaat.

He begins by peeling a couple of potatoes and then cutting them into small pieces before washing. The chef then boils the potatoes and adds Kashmiri chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, chaat masala, and amchur to them. He also adds breadcrumbs, cilantro, green chilli, garlic, and ginger before mixing everything well in a bowl. The potatoes are mashed evenly before Eitan proceeds to make small tikki or patty out of them using a scoop.
The chef coats each patty in some corn flour before they are fried until golden brown. Once the tikkis are ready, Eitan makes some mint chutney by tossing some mint leaves, coriander leaves, ginger, garlic, salt, lemon and other spices in the blender.
He then places the tikkis on a plate, tops it up with a dollop of curd and adds mint and tamarind chutney too. Some chopped onions and sev also goes into it making the dish look absolutely appetizing.
Eitan's post drew a lot of responses on the platform. Indians especially were appreciative of the chef's attempt at making Aloo Tikki Chaat. “I love adding papri as a bonus. Hahha it's not authentic like yours but an extra crunch,” a user wrote. Another person said, “I am coming to eat this nowwww”.
