There are several products across the globe that need proper age proof before purchasing. Take alcohol and tobacco for instance. Buying or selling (to people below 18 years) these products often lead to several legal complications too. But did you know that even whipped cream can land you in soup?! You read that right. In one such recent report, doing the rounds on the internet, it is stated that people below 21 years cannot buy whipped cream in New York. According to a report in mashed, this law has been passed very recently in New York - it directs people to produce ID proofs before buying whipped cream from any grocery store. It is in fact illegal for people below the mentioned age limit to buy whipped cream cans.
Wonder why such a decision was made by the authorities? Well, it might look bizarre at the first glance; but according to authorities, there's much more to it. NBC New York reports that these cans are often used by youngsters as inhalants to trick their cognitive abilities. "Some teens use the nitrous oxide (a.k.a. laughing gas) in the whipped cream canister to get high, more commonly referred to as doing 'whippits' (or whip-its)," the report reads.
New York State Senator Joseph Addabbo, who sponsored the bill, recently took to Twitter to announce the news and clear the misinterpretations regarding the new law. He said that he did not ask people not to buy whipped cream; instead, he said that buying individual cartridges for the whipped cream cans is illegal for people below 21.
