Soak the dal for one hour and then boil it with 2 cups of water till dried, on low flame.
In a kadhai, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, ginger and half the quantity of green chillies. Saute on low flame.
Add the chilli powder, along with 1 and a half teaspoon salt. Immediately add the grated tomatoes. Keep stirring till the mixture leaves the oil.
Add the boiled dal and mix well for around 5 minutes.
Add the pepper powder, lime juice and chopped coriander. Lightly mix and turn off the heat.
Prepare a tadka (tempering) using ghee and the remaining green chillies. Pour it over the dal preparation and serve hot with rotis or parathas.
