Soft and fluffy savoury pancake with some delicious chutney by the side - and that's a fulfilling plate of uttapam for you. A popular South Indian breakfast dish, uttapam is light, wholesome and keeps you full for long. It is also super easy to prepare and makes for a quick meal during those time-pressed mornings. Owing to these factors, the popularity of uttapam breaks the barriers and goes beyond the region; so much so, that you will find several variations of this dish across India. A quintessential uttapam is prepared with the classic idli-dosa batter made with urad dal and rice. However, several people tweak the recipe to make it healthier. While some add rava instead of rice, others prefer using ragi, oats and other ancient grains.
We found a recipe that includes protein-packed yellow moong dal and some healthy vegetable and can be deemed ideal for a well-balanced meal. This moong dal uttapam is also enriched with fibre and antioxidants that makes it a great option for the ones looking to shed some extra kilos. High-Protein Breakfast: How To Make Moong Dal Uttapam | Moong Dal Uttapam Recipe:
For this particular dish, we need soaked moong dal, carrot, capsicum, onion, tomato, green chilli, ginger, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric, hing, baking soda and some oil. You can use different other vegetables of your choice. Let's take a look at the recipe.
Step 1. Add the soaked moong dal in a grinder and make a smooth paste. Transfer it to a bowl.
Step 2. Add all the other vegetables and spices to it and mix form a dosa-like batter. If you find the batter to be thick, add some water to it. And if the batter turns thin and runny, add some sooji to get the perfect consistency.
Step 3. Heat a tawa (preferably non-stick) and add some oil/ghee/butter to it.
Step 4. Add the batter and spread evenly. Close the lid and let it cook on a low-medium flame.
Step 5. When the base is cooked, flip it over and cook the other side. Cook till both the sides turn golden brown in colour.
Serve it hot with chutney or ketchup.
