The Internet can simultaneously be a weird and wonderful place. We often come across videos showing useful tips and tricks for various daily activities. Many of us love discovering new kitchen and cooking hacks that make our lives easier. Sometimes, people also share their own inventions and homemade gadgets. Some of these creations blow our minds, but some also leave us questioning the point of their existence. Recently, a uniquely designed coffee mug grabbed our attention online for a similar reason. In a post that has since gone viral, an Instagram page called 'yup.that.exists' showcased a mug apparently designed by a rock climber. But what was so special about it?

The first thing that caught our eyes was that the mug did not have a handle. Rather, it had a bunch of grooves and slightly protruding edges along one side. The post explains, "Rock climber creates coffee mug that feels like you're hanging onto the edge of a rock, making it almost impossible to hang onto." In the photo, we see a person with their fingers poised along the grooves, seemingly in an attempt to lift the mug up. "It's not practical, but I want one," said the caption. The post has received more than 138K likes so far. In the comments, one person said, "That would actually be a really good exercise to work finger strength! I love it." But others seemed far from impressed. "Yes, I would like to spill scalding hot liquid all over my face and neck. Best way to wake up in the morning" commented another user sarcastically. One also asked, "What if I don't want to drink with my right hand?" Many people pointed out how pointless the invention is, as one can simply hold the entire mug in one's hand. Read their reactions below:
"Nobody is gonna talk about how you can grab the whole thing with your hand and forget the problem because the design is stupid, right?"
"Just. Grab it like it's a normal cup."
"*Claw grasps the whole mug.*"
"Me with 300 IQ holding it from the other side."
"Umm, I can just grip it like a normal "handleless" cup."
"I'll be wrapping my hand around the whole mug thank you very much."
"The whole point of the handle is so the heat doesn't hit your hand."
This mug left us scratching our heads too. What did you think of it?
