Machcha Patropoda is fish marinated with a generous amount of masala, wrapped in banana leaf and cooked for a few minutes till it's soft and flaky.

Ingredients of Machcha Patropoda (Fish Wrapped in Banana Leaf)

  • For the masala:
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1 tsp garlic
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2-3 whole dry red chillies
  • For the main preparation:
  • 1 Whole fish
  • 2 tsp masala
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp green chillies, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 7 curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 Tbsp mustard oil

How to Make Machcha Patropoda (Fish Wrapped in Banana Leaf)

  • For the masala:
  • 1.Grind together some ginger, garlic, cumin seeds, mustard seeds and whole red chillies.
  • For the main preparation:
  • 1.Clean the fish and cut into small pieces.
  • 2.Add the prepared masala along with salt, green chillies, turmeric, curry leaves, coriander leaves, onions, mustard oil and mix well. Leave this to marinate.
  • 3.Wrap the marinated fish in a banana leaf and tie it up with a thread.
  • 4.Place the sealed banana on coal for 15-20 minutes and serve hot.
