A lovely dal recipe to grace your everyday meals. Made with Bengal gram, black gram and mild spices. Garnish with fresh cream!

Ingredients of Urad aur Channe ki Dal

  • 2/3 cup chhilke waali urad ki daal
  • 1/3 cup channe ki daal
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 Tbsp finely chopped ginger
  • 2 Tbsp clarified butter
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • 2-3 green chillies- coarsely chopped
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp powdered black pepper
  • For garnishing:
  • 2 Tbsp malai
  • 1 Tbsp chopped coriander leaves

How to Make Urad aur Channe ki Dal

1.Pick, clean and wash the lentils. Cook in 6 cups of water, with salt and ginger. Cook lentils till soft.
2.If using a pressure cooker, add only 4 cups of water and cook for 12 minutes.
3.Heat the clarified butter in a pan; add cumin seeds and asafoetida. When the seeds begin to splutter, add green chillies and saute till slightly discoloured.
4.Add the coriander powder, garam masala and black pepper. Mix well and add the lentil mixture.
5.Bring to boil and then simmer for about 5 minutes.
6.Serve hot, garnished with cream and the chopped coriander leaves.
