Bengali cuisine is a treasure trove of flavours from a variety of foods and the Bengali Mughlai paratha is popular across the country. The cuisine boasts of many signature dishes that have caught the fancy of many people across the country. While there are many Bengali sweets and curries for Main meals that are hugely popular, it is lesser known what Bengalis eat for breakfast. Have you also started to wonder? Just like everywhere else in India, people in Bengal also love to start their day with a grand paratha. However, their parathas are slightly different than the regular ones, and are fondly called porothas. Moglai porotha is a popular Bengali breakfast dish, which is also an equally popular street food in the city of Kolkata.

For the porotha, dough is prepared with all-purpose flour, refined oil and warm water or milk. The porotha is stuffed with a delectable filling of boiled minced meat, combined with onions, green chillies, ginger-garlic paste and coriander leaves. Breadcrumbs are also added to give a slight crunch to the porotha. The range of spices that includes Bengali garam masala, enhances the flavour of the stuffing. The stuffed porotha is fried to come up with a crispy, light golden treat.
Pair this porotha with green mint or coriander chutney, or with curd, to enjoy a special breakfast meal that you and your family are sure to fall in love with. The recipe was shared by food vlogger Ananya Banerjee. She shows how to make this tasty Bengali-style porotha at home in a recipe video posted on her YouTube channel ‘Chef Ananya Banerjee'.
