An Indian soup of spiced lentils, both healthy and tasty.

Ingredients of Moong Dal Shorba

  • 1/2 cup moong dal (yellow dal) - cleaned and washed
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 Tbsp chopped ginger
  • 1 Tbsp chopped garlic
  • 1 Tbsp cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • Green chillies - chopped
  • Coriander leaves - chopped
  • 1/2 Tbsp turmeric powder (haldi)
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Moong Dal Shorba

  • 1.Mix together moong dal, chopped onion, ginger, green chilies, turmeric powder, salt and chopped garlic.
  • 2.Add five cups of water and boil it.
  • 3.Simmer for fifteen minutes, till the dal becomes soft, removing scum from time to time.
  • 4.Blend the daal mixture and strain. Keep aside.
  • 5.Heat butter in a pan, add cumin seeds.
  • 6.Sauté till seeds splutter.
  • 7.Add pureed dal, and bring it to a boil. Adjust consistency by adding water if desired.
  • 8.Add lemon juice and garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot.
